Though in my time such a thing was well beyond our grasp, in terms of technology, the idea was still discussed in less scientific terms. However, I promise you that through the concepts of adoption and stepchildren, we are still quite capable of comprehending the notion of feeling akin to those whom we are not related by blood. I was teasing, and I think there is simply a vast difference between that and claiming parenthood over an entire race. It is too large -- the larger a group becomes the easier it is to generalize, assign numbers in place of names, to care less.
