I was thinking about it... But he said some concerning things.

Like what?

He said something about... us. That you... [This is uncomfortable.] may have feelings... like that.

[Omega nods once.] I see. I'm not sure that I do. I care for you deeply. And... [He pauses, going down that track wasn't... helpful.]

It wouldn't be good for you, either of us, to intensify our relationship, surely?

We're... already so wrapped up in each other.

I... see. [He shouldn't feel disappointed. What Omega said was only logical, wasn't it? So why...]

There's not much intensifying to be done, is there...? [He wasn't really talking to Omega, more thinking aloud, and he hadn't realised he had even spoken at all.]

[And Omega looks heartsbroken.] This... is a conversation best had in person. May I come to you?

[Omega fumbled with his communicator, before just flinging it aside. What use was it while there was a flood on anyway? He moved hastily away.

And it was only a matter of moments before he arrived at Rassilon's door.]

[He quickly opens the door when he feels Omega's presence, stepping aside to let his friend in, anxious.]

[Omega's anxious himself standing for a moment, not looking Rassilon in the eye. The door closes and Omega hugs him.] I'm worried. [Scared is more like it, but 'worried' will do for now.]

[Rassilon hugs him back, not the least bit reassured by Omega's behaviour.] About what?

What if we... what if it goes wrong? [He sounds absolutely certain that it will, after all, that's what his life as been like, hasn't.]

[He blinks. And then looks almost hurt. Why is Omega so sure it can only go wrong?] I will never leave you. [No matter how any hypothetical romance were to turn out, he would never reject his friend. They'd be friends still, he's sure of that.]

[He holds him tighter.] How are you so sure? Nothing ever works for us, Rass. Nothing.

[He doesn't mind.] When I thought you were dead... [He doesn't know how to convey the sheer desperation he had felt in that moment, in the control room, when the reality of what had just happened had hit him. He doesn't know how to convey the grief and the rage he had felt afterwards.] I can't be without you. [That's the closest he can get to it right now.]

[Omega feels tears start to blur his vision, the emotion of the moment and the truth, for him, behind that phrase 'I can't be without you' signifies everything that he's afraid of.]

...Omega? [He steps back a little, to see his friends face and... Oh no. Again! Could he just once stop making...] Omega, don't cry.

[He rubs his eyes and looks away.] I'm just… I'm sorry.

[He swallows.] What is it, my friend?

[He looks at him. Oh so brave!] I can't live without you either.

[Rassilon looks back.] All the more reason to never leave you.

[Omega nods but doesn't speak. He can't.]
